Subject: Iowan. I feel you bro.
So if I'm not going to "dodge" or defend myself against a knife.... what are you suggesting I do? I don't think you're getting my point. My point is that you can tell me all the techniques you are going to do, tell me what's going to work and what's not. But if you're not testing it or training it - it's all just "talk" If you want to learn to defend yourself with a knife - you have to learn to how to defend against it. When we train, we use replica blades that are either shaped like the knives we currently carry or a typical folder. They are hard-edged, hurt when they hit you, but aren't going to cut you. A sharpie or a marker is a good tool, but the feel and pain of getting stabbed with a training blade is all I need to know if I am dead or not. There is NO easy way to defend against a knife. But ANYTHING. ANYONE says on that internet telling me how they can defend against a knife - without actual knife defense / attack experience or training - is just "talk". I run a Jiu-Jitsu, Combatives and Strength school in Connecticut called the "Jiu-Jitsu and Strength Academy". One of the main programs I teach is a Combatives Jiu-Jitsu style where we incorporate live knife training constantly. This is the only way to understand the reality of a knife. My students understand the reality of how dangerous it is, but they also have solid concepts to employ if they ever have to face a knife. The last thought is this. In an really situation, whether it's just a fight or a life or death situation. You really have no clue what you're going to do. You're going to do what comes natural to you. But, if you train and learn to utilize your instincts or develop natural reactions to situations, you'll have a chance. You still may get killed, maimed, etc. But at least you fought for life like a Warrior and choose NOT to be a victim.
